The Powers of the Moon

The main spiritual compass for me is the moon. Watching it change nightly and go through different phases. Sometimes it shines it’s whole light, sometimes just a little sliver and sometimes, it doesn’t shine at all… But it always keeps going and comes back even after its darkest days. This is how I feel about my own emotions and power. Some days I am at my top performance, and other’s I am lucky if I get off the couch more than 3x a day.

The new moon is a time for setting goals. My goals right now are to help promote caring for yourself and ways to help overcome burn out and being run down by life. Because sometimes, life gets hard. And we all need to take time for ourselves, our health, our future and our overall wellbeing.

Setting intentions during the different phases of the moon cycle can help you sit back and reflect on the different phases of your life and reset your goals. For me personally, I can set goals and then life and emotions and feelings, my own mind and all kinds of other things get in the way and get me off track of where I wanted to be and what I wanted to be doing. So I try to set new intentions during the full and new moon cycles.

New Moon Intentions:

The new moon is a good time to cleanse your energy and start fresh. It is the time to start fresh and marks the start of a new beginning. Take some time to set your intentions and determine what you want to accomplish and what you want to set your eyes on.

On the night of a new moon there are many rituals that people do. I don’t participate in all of them mainly because I am lazy. Maybe in the future that will change. But for right now, these are the rituals I do mixed with some that I have done some research in but maybe have not fully implemented because of my own shortcomings:

  • Set out water in a mason jar to be charged by the moon.

    • Some for me to drink and some for the plants.

  • Set out your crystals to be charged by the moon.

  • Set new intentions:

    • Review them in your mind

    • Write them in a journal

    • Write them down and then burn the paper to set it out into the universe

  • Cleanse your space:

    • Clean your home & work space

    • Cleanse the air and

    • Light candles

    • Get new plants

    • Air it out

  • Make Plans:

    • Map out the steps to your goals

    • Update your calendar/organizer

  • Release:

    • Negative energy

    • Tension

    • Toxins

Full Moon Intentions:

During the full moon I do a lot of the same rituals but my intentions are different. During the time of the full moon my intentions are for cleansing my vibes, and clearing out all the things that are weighing me down from hitting my goals. I am going to get off track. It is just the nature of the beast that is my brain. I can not take a straight line from point A to point B. So the full moon is a time to figure out what is distracting me, get rid of it, and get back on the path of hitting my goals.

Like I mentioned before, most of my rituals are the same for both phases but with different intentions. I am sure that there is always more for me to learn and to make each one of them more useful, but for the time being, I like where I am at with my practices.
