Welcome to My Self Care Community

I want to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Jessica, I am a wife and a mom of two crazy boys, a pup, 2 cats and a turtle. My mind goes through some crazy things on a day to day basis and I have a lot of intrusive thoughts, but I also have lots of goals and plans that run through there as well. I worked 10 years in child welfare and have since decided that I needed to make a change, focus on me and my family and try to make sure that we hit our own goals and have lots of great memories doing it. We like to try and make everything an adventure and love our traditions.

This space is for me to learn all the forms of self-care and share them with the world. Getting burned out and broken from any job, family/friend or lifestyle, is no way to live. I want to help break the cycle and help to put things in place before the cycle starts!

I used to think that self care was taking a walk, meditating, getting a massage, working out, etc. But as I read more and do more, I have learned that there is SO much more to self care than taking a break. Self care is educating yourself, making sure that you have a financial cushion and financial knowledge,  creating and maintaining a support system, safety and freedom and so much more. You can not take care of you and give your 100% at work, at home or in the community if you are not equally balanced and one of these areas is draining all of you energy and thoughts.

Knowing what we are working towards is key, or else we are just mindlessly wondering and will never know if we are making any progress or not. And the goals don't have to be things like “save enough money for a vacation” or “schedule a weekend spa trip” or anything to do with numbers and trips. It can be things like “wake up feeling rested and relaxed” or “make it a week without going into the bathroom alone and crying” or “make it through three days with no physical pain”. The options are endless. But we need to be working towards something if we want to see anything change or make any progress. For that, I find it important to write things down and keep track of my thoughts and goals. (Also because I forget things in about 30 seconds because my brain is thinking about too many things at once.)

These blogs will hopefully make sense to you in some way or another, and make you think about things going on in your life and how you can implement a deeper approach to self care and make meaningful changes in your daily practices.

Always stay curious!
